How to Choose the Best HOG

That is, Hidden Object Game. With the ever growing popularity of HOG’s, how do you know which one is right for you. It seems that nearly every casual game developer out there is churning them out daily. We see at least one new one a week and sometimes, one almost every day.

Some people will play each and every one, others of us are more picky or just don’t have the money.

I personally like a HOG that’s giving me the most game for my buck, or rather, my $6.99. So I pick my HOG’s by three standards:

  • Game Play – is it unique, does it have puzzles, or is it a straight HOG?

I personally like a HOG that’s giving me the most game for my buck, or rather, my $6.99. So I pick my HOG’s by three standards:

  • Game Play – is it unique, does it have puzzles, or is it a straight HOG?
  • Graphics – are they beautiful, cute, eye catching, boring, or way too cluttered which is something I find a lot in HOG’s.
  • Storyline – does it have an interesting and intriguing storyline?

The following games are the best of the best (in my opinion) in all three categories. However, since we’ve been seeing many new variations of HOG’s with puzzles, I’ve broken them down into two categories for you.

Straight HOG – a HOG that has little to no puzzles, mostly seek and find.

  • Mystery Case Files (MCF) Prime Suspects
  • MCF Huntsville
  • MCF Ravenhearst
  • Hidden Expedition: Titanic
  • Hidden Expedition: Everest
  • Big City Adventure: San Francisco
  • Big City Adventure: Sydney
  • Miss Teri Tale
  • Nightshift Code

Puzzle HOG – a HOG that has multiple puzzles, an adventure aspect, or unique game play (my personal favorite category).

  • The Clumsy’s (walkthrough coming soon, keep your eyes peeled)
  • Hidden Object Show
  • Agatha Christie: Peril At End House
  • Agatha Christie: Death on the Nile
  • Can You See What I See?
  • Sherlock Holmes: Mystery of the Persian Carpet
  • Dream Chronicles 1 & 2
  • Natalie Brooks: Secrets of Treasure House
  • Escape the Museum
  • James Patterson Women’s Murder Club: Death In Scarlet
  • Hidden Secrets: Nightmare
  • MCF: Madame Fate
  • Azada

If you still can’t decide which HOG to play then I suggest you do as I do. Scoot over to Big Fish Games, click on Hidden Object category, find one that sounds interesting to you and DL the 1 hour demo. If after a few minutes you’re hooked, then it’s for you, if after an hour you’re bored silly, pass on it.

Contrary to popular belief, I have not played each and every HOG out there so you may have played a game that you think deserves to be in these categories. Don’t be afraid to give us a shout and give us a mini review of why you think the game should be on this list and we’ll add your personal review. We love hearing from our members.

I hope this article has helped you and happy gaming!

And remember, you can always find the latest HOG games in our hidden object games category.
